Oral Cancer Awareness in Jacksonville

Free Oral Cancer Exam

Because oral cancer spreads faster than you think the best way to prevent the spreading of the disease is early detection. The oral cancer exam is simple, fast and painless.

  1. Prepare for the exam. If you have dentures [plates] or partials, you will need to remove them.
  2. Relax during the exam. The health care provider will gently inspect your face, neck, lips and mouth looking for any signs of cancer.
  3. They will also use their hands to feel under your jaw and the side of your neck, checking for any irregular lumps.
  4. After they are done inspecting the outside they’ll need to examine the inside of your mouth.
  5. Simply open your mouth so the dentist can feel the inside of your lips and cheeks and search for irregular red or white patches.
  6. The doctor will examine your tongue for abnormal color or texture and gently pull your tongue from side to side, checking the base and underside of your tongue.
  7. Finally, they will inspect the roof and floor of your mouth, as well as the back of your throat, looking for any lumps or sensitivity.
  8. Now the test is over. Easy. Quick. Painless. And, it can save your life.
